Overflow is a word puzzle game. This page explains what information the app uses, why, and the choices you have. Overflow is meant for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13.
What we collect
- Anonymous player ID. The first time you open the app we create an anonymous ID (Firebase Authentication) so your progress and daily scores can be saved.
- Account details (optional). If you create an account we receive your email address (email sign-in) or the email of the Google account you choose (Google sign-in). Passwords are handled by Firebase and are never visible to us.
- Game progress. Levels and stars, in-game currency, boosters, daily rewards, words you have found, season and league progress, cosmetics, best score and streak. This is stored on your device and, if you have an account, also in the cloud so it can move to a new phone.
- Daily leaderboard. Your daily score and an automatic display name such as "Player ab12". We do not show your real name or email.
- Usage and diagnostics. Anonymous analytics events (for example, levels started or won, hints used, words submitted) and crash reports, through Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics, plus basic device information such as model, operating system version and app version.
- Advertising data. The app shows optional rewarded video ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device's advertising ID and IP address to serve and measure ads, and, where you consent or the law allows, to personalise them.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for your precise location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera. Reminder notifications (if you turn them on) are scheduled on your device and do not send your data anywhere.
How we use it
- To run the game, save and restore your progress, and show the daily board.
- To keep the app working and fix bugs (diagnostics).
- To understand how the game is used so we can improve it (analytics).
- To show rewarded ads that fund the game.
We do not sell your personal information.
Who processes it
We use Google services as processors: Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config, App Check) and Google AdMob. Their handling of data is described at policies.google.com/privacy and firebase.google.com/support/privacy. Data may be stored on servers outside your country.
Ads choices
Where required, the app asks for your consent before showing personalised ads. You can reset advertising ID or limit ad personalisation in your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy → Tracking).
Retention and deletion
Progress is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account and its cloud data at any time in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account and data. You can also request deletion from outside the app, see how to delete your account and data. Anonymous analytics and crash data cannot be linked back to you and are kept for a limited period by Google according to its policies.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data and to object to some processing. Contact us at the address above and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections and cloud access is restricted by security rules so each player can only reach their own save. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
Overflow is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
